Network Solutions, Inc. has done more harm to the intellectual
property rights of businesses than any other group or entity
since the founding fathers established the process to foster
innovation in this country.
The research required for a trademark should apply in a
modified form to the selection of a domain name. That a
trademark or tradename is already in wide usage should
proscribe its use in any gTLD.
The registration certification that use of a domain does
not infringe any trademarks should also be explicit about
violation of copyright laws and be on a separate signed
form to assure that the certification is made by the
registrant. This would go beyond the self-serving email
registration by an ISP that is interested only in a fee
without regard for the potential damage to trademark
holders.
Moreover, the dispute process used by NSI is a mere
charade to gloss over their contributory infringements.
