WIPO Internet Domain Name Process

Consultations

In order to ensure that all interested parties had the opportunity to present their views on the issues addressed in the Internet Domain Name Process, WIPO is conducted several regional consultations.  With a view to ensuring full geographical representation, these consultations were organized in all regions of the world, particularly, Africa, Latin America, North America, Asia, and Europe. Members of the panel of experts were present at these meetings to share their experience, reply to questions and participate in the discussion.  The consultations were for the purpose of information gathering and any views presented have served, in addition to the comments on the RFCs, as the basis for the recommendations that have been made by WIPO to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).

Two series of regional consultations were organized.  The first was held from September to November 1998, the second series in January and February 1999.   All interested parties were invited to participate in the consultations. Participation could take two forms: (1) attendance and participation in the open discussion, or (2) formal presentation of views.
