INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION

The WIPO reception desk is situated in the main entrance lobby of the Conference Center. This desk will function for information and registration on Tuesday, February 20, 2001, from 8 a.m. Telephone: (41-22) 791 9411 and 791 9413.

 

OPENING SESSION

Tuesday, February 20, 2001, at 9 a.m.

 

INTERPRETATION

Simultaneous interpretation is provided in English, French and Spanish, the languages being identified on the control switch as follows:

ADMISSION BADGES

Admission badges are issued to participants at the time of registration, at the registration desk. Participants are requested to wear their badges when they are in the Conference Center.

 

TELEPHONE AND COMMUNICATIONS

Calls can be made from public telephones at the Post Office and around the Conference Center with the use of taxcards, available from the Post Office.

All incoming communications should be made to the following numbers:

INTERNET CAFÉ

A number of PCs and printers with Internet access will be available for all participants. The PCs have the following software:

FTP Pro 6
Telnet
Office 97.

You will therefore be able to check your email if you have web access or are able to connect via telnet. Please note that no additional software will be provided or is to be installed.

 

DOCUMENTS COUNTER

The WIPO documents counter is open in the main entrance lobby of the Conference Center on Tuesday, February 20, 2001, from 8 a.m.

 

TRAVEL

Kuoni Travel Agents has an office at WIPO headquarters (across the road from the Center), which is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday (Telephone: (41-22) 733 46 31). Participants are requested to contact Kuoni directly if they require assistance with travel arrangements.

 

PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Buses to and from Geneva city center (and the railway station), stop at the rue de Vermont very near the Conference Center (bus line 5), avenue Giuseppe Motta outside the ITU tower (bus line 8), and Place des Nations (bus lines 8, F, V and Z).

 

TAXIS

The nearest taxi rank is situated on chemin Louis-Dunant. Taxis can be called by dialing (41-22) 320 2202 or (41-22) 320 2020.

 

PARKING

Participants may be dropped off by car near to the roundabout in front of the main entrance to the Conference Center, but no parking is allowed there. Upon request, passes for free-of-charge access to the underground parking at the Place des Nations will be provided.

Chauffeur-driven official cars should not remain parked in the vicinity of the entrance to the Conference Center, but should leave the area and return just before the expected end of the meeting.

 

FACILITIES OFFERED AT OR NEAR THE CONFERENCE CENTER

a) Postal service

There is a Post Office on the ground floor of the Conference Center.
Hours: 7.30 a.m. to 12 p.m. and 1.45 p.m. to 6 p.m. (Monday to Friday)

b) Bank

An office of the Union de Banques Suisses (UBS) is situated across the street from the Conference Center at 17 chemin Louis-Dunant.
Hours: 8 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. (Monday to Friday)

c) Cloakroom

A self-service cloakroom, situated in the main entrance hall of the Conference Center, is available for the use of participants. The area is unattended, and WIPO can take no responsibility for loss or theft.

d) Coffee bars, cafeteria, restaurant at the Conference Center

Coffee bars: open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Cafeteria: open from 11.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Restaurant: open from 11.30 a.m. to 3 p.m.

e) News-stand

A news-stand and tobacconist are open during meeting hours (Level 0 of the Conference Center).

 

HOTELS

February is a very busy time in Geneva and we would advise you to reserve hotel accommodation as soon as possible. A list of hotels where rooms have been set aside is contained in the Annex. In order to benefit from the preferential tariffs, reservations must be made through WIPO. Fax: + 41 22 740 3700.

 

RESTAURANTS

While morning and afternoon coffee will be provided, lunch is not foreseen.

The Conference Center has catering facilities for up to 400 persons, and there are a number of restaurants in the vicinity offering a wide range of cuisine (Chinese, French, Italian, Thai, etc.).
