Curriculum Vitae Professor François Dessemontet
Professor François Dessemontet, a national of Switzerland, is Professor of contract and tort law at Lausanne University, Visiting Professor on intellectual property at Fribourg University Law Faculty, and Chairman of the Board and Managing Director of CEDIDAC, Center for Enterprise Law of Lausanne University. His areas of specialization include intellectual property, arbitration, private international law, contract law, company law and American, European and Swiss law. He served as chairman of the 3rd Expert Commission on the Revision of the Swiss Copyright Law.
Professor Dessemontet has had lengthy experience as a consultant and expert with several United Nations agencies, including WIPO. He is a member of the International Association for the Protection of Industrial Property, the Licensing Executives Society, the International League for Competition Law, the International Literary and Artistic Association, and is Chairman of the International Association for the Advancement of Teaching and Research in Intellectual Property (ATRIP). He is also a committee member of the Swiss Arbitration Association and serves as Chairman of the Swiss Association of Jurists, the main professional association of Switzerland in the area of law.
He has written approx. 150 books and articles. His major publications are The Legal Protection of Know-how in the United States of America (1976), Intellectual Property Law in Switzerland (2000), Introduction to Swiss Law (1999, editor), and Le Droit dauteur (1999).
Professor Dessemontet is a graduate of Lausanne University where he gained a Law Degree (1970) and a Doctorate in Law (1974). He was admitted to the Bar of Lausanne in 1975.
