Promotion of Access to Information Technology Tools and Systems

WIPO launched intellectual property office automation projects in six pilot countries in the African region, namely:  Ethiopia, Kenya, Lesotho, Namibia, Nigeria and Zimbabwe.

The pilot projects focused initially on automation of trademarks processing to be followed by automation of patents and industrial designs processing.

The deployment work covered:

  • the upgrade of the information technology infrastructure with the necessary hardware, software and installation of the Oracle database
  • the customization of a software
  • data capture
  • training of staff
  • knowledge transfer
