Master Program (LL.M.) in Intellectual Property

WIPO Academy and the University of Turin, Italy
On June 1, 2012, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will launch the eleventh edition of the Master Program (LLM) in intellectual property (IP), jointly offered by the WIPO Academy and the University of Turin, in cooperation with the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO).
The working language of the LLM program is English. The program is structured in three different cycles stretching over 9 months, from June 2012 to February 2013:
- the first cycle, (from June to August 2012) consists of distance learning courses via the Internet;
- the second cycle, from September to December 2012 is based on face–to–face classes held in Turin, Italy (“the residential part of the program”); and
- the third cycle, stretching from December 2012 to February 2013, involves the writing and finalization of the final version of the research paper whose preparation commenced during the second cycle.
The LLM Program is designed for young professionals who already have a grounding in IP and wish to acquire the skills required to play a leading role in that area, through exposure to an international and comparative approach.
The curriculum
aims at providing an in-depth examination of all fields of IP and is taught by leading academicians, legal practitioners and IP experts drawn from various universities around the world and from WIPO. It includes a 5-day study visit to WIPO headquarters in Geneva, during which students follow a number of lectures and have an opportunity to meet officials from WIPO and other international organizations.
Upon satisfactory completion of the Course, students will receive a Diploma (“Master of Laws Degree in Intellectual Property”) jointly awarded by WIPO and the University of Turin.
Scholarship
With a view to contributing to the development of human resources in the field of IP in developing countries and countries in transition to a market economy, WIPO will offer scholarships to 20 persons originating from those countries and are highly motivated to participate in this Course (each scholarship includes air ticket, accommodation and full boarding at the campus of the ITC / ILO in Turin and registration fees). Persons to be awarded the scholarships should primarily be teachers of intellectual property or those desiring to teach IP in a university or other higher school of learning or research and development institution (although some exceptions for deserving candidates may be made).
Applications
Applicants must hold a four-year degree in law, economics, engineering, medicine, physics, chemistry, communication sciences or business administration. Excellent knowledge of English is required.
Any person fulfilling the above mentioned requirements and wishing to benefit from WIPO sponsorship to participate in this program is invited to send to the WIPO Academy, no later than March 15, 2012, a duly completed application form
, detailed curriculum vitae, copies of university diploma and transcript, and any other appropriate supporting documents. Upon receipt of all the above mentioned documents, due consideration will be given to candidatures for admission to the program during the selection process.
