Master of Intellectual Property Law

Queensland University of Technology (QUT)

On February 27, 2012, the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and the Queensland University of Technology (QUT)’s Faculty of Law, with the support of the Intellectual Property Office of Australia (IP Australia), will launch the third edition of the Master of Intellectual Property Law course.

This Postgraduate Course will be held at QUT in Brisbane, Australia, over a period of one academic year full-time (2 semesters) from February 27 to October 26, 2012. It is designed for students wishing to acquire the skills required to play a leading role in the field of intellectual property, through exposure to an international and comparative approach.

The curriculum aims to provide an in-depth examination of patents, trademarks, industrial designs, copyright and related rights, as well as a specialized and business strategy oriented analysis based on the latest developments in these fields.

Upon satisfactory completion of the Course, students will receive a Master degree of Intellectual Property Law, jointly awarded by QUT and WIPO.

The Course is open to students holding a four year Bachelor Degree in any discipline from QUT or an equivalent Australian or overseas institution. Applicants with a three year Bachelor Degree with professional experience in the field of intellectual property, may be considered for entry.

With a view to contributing to the development of human resources in the field of intellectual property in the Asia-Pacific Region, WIPO will grant scholarships to three persons from developing countries of that region (Asia-Pacific region), and highly motivated to participate in this Course.

Any person fulfilling the above requirements and wishing to benefit from WIPO sponsorship to participate in this program is invited to comply with the following procedure:

1. Make an application to QUT for enrolment by completing F form (http://www.law.qut.edu.au/study/courses/pgrad/mipl.jsp). Upon assessment of the entry requirements, QUT will send an offer letter to the applicant within two weeks approximately.
2. Submit the offer letter to WIPO (MIPQUT.academy@wipo.int) no later than November 30, 2011, with a copy to the Program Director, Professor Kamal Puri (kamal.puri@qut.edu.au) together with a request for WIPO sponsorship and updated curriculum vitae. WIPO would then notify the outcome of the sponsorship application.
