Call for Papers: IP & Innovation Researchers of Asia Conference

The sixth edition of the Intellectual Property and Innovation Researchers of Asia (IPIRA) Conference will take place in-person at the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi, Viet Nam, on January 18 and 19, 2024. Applications are open until October 22, 2023, for academics and Ph.D. candidates interested in presenting at the Conference.

What is the IPIRA Conference?

The IPIRA Conference brings together researchers primarily focused on IP and innovation-related topics in Asia to present their works in-progress to fellow academics, senior scholars, and officials from international organizations for feedback and dialogue. The Conference provides participants with a unique networking and learning opportunity, fostering collaboration in the region and beyond. The program of the IPIRA Conference includes plenary and parallel sessions featuring research presentations and keynote speakers.

Who is organizing the Conference?

The IPIRA Conference is organized by the IPIRA Network in cooperation with the WIPO Academy, World Trade Organization (WTO), the Foreign Trade University, and the following academic institutions:

Who can apply?

Junior, mid-career and senior academics, alongside Ph.D. candidates interested in presenting their research are invited to apply. Submissions are welcomed from legal scholars writing on IP and innovation-related topics in Asian law, comparative law, and international law, as well as scholars interested in IP and innovation from a variety of interdisciplinary perspectives. Affiliation with an academic institution is a qualification requirement for those wishing to present at the Conference.

Applications from students, including LL.M. students, will not be accepted as the Conference is reserved only for academics and Ph.D. candidates. Non-presenting scholars can apply to attend the Conference as observers.

How to apply?

Researchers interested in presenting at the IPIRA Conference should submit an email with the following details to the IPIRA Network:

  • The title and short abstract of the paper that would be presented (500 words or less) submitted as a Word document.
  • A short biography (200 words or less) as a Word document. A recent picture should be included as part of the biography submission.
  • “Submission to the Sixth IPIRA Conference” should be indicated in the email subject line.

Please note that there are no registration fees for participating in the IPIRA Conference. However, admitted researchers are expected to cover their own travel-related and accommodation expenses, in addition to bearing responsibility for obtaining and covering the costs related to their travel such as visa(s) and any other necessary travel documents.

Applicants will be informed if their application has been accepted by November 3, 2023. Accepted applicants should confirm their participation by November 12, 2023 at the latest.
