Ruth Soetendorp holds the Chair in Intellectual Property Management at Bournemouth University, and is Joint Director of the Centre for Intellectual Property Policy and Management. She is a member of the European Patent Office International Academy, and has worked on programmes in the Regional Industrial Property Programme and the Euro-China Intellectual Property International Co-operation programme.

Her work since 1997 has been supported by awards from the UK Patent Office, the UK Higher Education Academy, and The Leverhulme Trust. In 2001 she received a Higher Education Academy National Teaching fellowship. In 2002 she published (with Linda Byles) "Law teaching for other Programmes" in "Effective Learning & Teaching in Law" (eds Burridge & Hinett, Kogan Page). She has recently completed work on two EU 5th framework intellectual property projects. In 2004 she published a research report (with Dr. C. Alalade) entitled "Protecting innovation in the Financial Services Sector – a study of patent activity in UK financial services industries", Financial Services Research Form 2004 (see www.nottingham.ac.uk/business/forum)

Recent writing and current research focuses on pedagogy, and resources, for the inclusion of intellectual property in the non-law curriculum. "Intellectual property Education – in the Law School and beyond", Intellectual Property Quarterly, 1 2005, pp 82-110, "Food for Engineers – intellectual property education for engineers", Industry & Higher Education, vol 18, number 6, December 2004, pp 363-377. Professor Soetendorp is a member of the Intellectual Property Institute and the Intellectual Property Awareness Group, and writes regularly as ‘European Correspondent’ for the journal of the IP Society of Australia and New Zealand.
