WIPO-US Advanced Summer School on Trademarks

Overview
The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will offer for the first time, a two-week Summer School on Trademarks, jointly with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) from
July 23 to August 3, 2012
This Summer School offers an invaluable education program in the whole area of trademarks. Fifty places will be made available. Selected candidates will be notified one week after the registration deadline (see Registration below).
Objective
The objective of the Summer School is to provide an opportunity for senior students and young professionals to acquire deeper knowledge on trademarks, and to gain an appreciation of trademarks as a tool for economic, social, cultural and technological development and the role WIPO plays in the global administration of IP.
Who May Apply?
Senior students (graduate and postgraduate students) and young professionals. As it is an advanced course, preference will be given to the candidates who are already familiar with the subject.

Registration Fees
The registration fee covers all course costs and is payable after candidates have been informed of their selection.
For students and young professionals from developing countries and countries in transition and residing in those countries
Students: US$ 150
Young professionals: US$ 250
For students and young professional from developed countries
Students: US$ 300
Young professionals: US$ 500
Distance Learning
Pre-selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a special session of the Academy's distance learning Course on Trademarks. Dates for this session will be announced upon pre-selection.
Program
The program consists of lectures by eminent experts in the field of trademarks, from WIPO, the USPTO, practitioners and the private sector on various topics on trademarks, including, inter alia, the Madrid System, TRIPS related issues, well-known marks, non-traditional marks, and trademarks and the Internet. The program also includes case studies on trademarks, licensing negotiation simulation exercises, trademark search exercises, and group discussions on selected trademark topics. The program incorporates likewise topics pertaining to geographical indications and industrial designs. At the end of the course, a certificate of participation is awarded to those who successfully complete all requirements of the program.
Insurance and Medical Examination
Non-resident participants will be provided with insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in connection with the Summer School program.
Each participant will be required to present a medical certificate upon arrival.
Travel, Accommodation and Living Expenses
Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Washington D.C., accommodation and living expenses during their participation of the program.
