Washington D.C. (July 22 to August 2, 2013)

This two-week Summer School on copyright and related rights, offered jointly by the WIPO Academy and the United States Patent and Trademark Office, provides an opportunity for senior students and young professionals to acquire deeper knowledge of copyright and related rights and to gain an appreciation of copyright as a tool for economic, social, cultural and technological development.

Curriculum

The program consists of lectures by eminent experts in the field of copyright and related rights from the USPTO, practitioners and the private sector. It also includes case studies, licensing negotiation simulation exercises and group discussions on selected topics on copyright and related rights.

A certificate of participation is awarded to those who successfully complete all requirements of the program.

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to 50 senior students (graduate and postgraduate students) and young professionals. As an advanced course, preference will be given to candidates already familiar with the subject.

Pre-selected candidates will be required to successfully complete a special session of the Academy's distance learning Course on Copyright and Related Rights. Dates for this session will be announced upon pre-selection.

Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Washington D.C., as well as accommodation and living expenses during their participation in the program.
