Summer School on Intellectual Property

This two-week Summer School offered jointly by the WIPO Academy, the Jamaica Intellectual Property Office (JIPO) and University of West Indies provides an opportunity for senior students and young professionals to acquire deeper knowledge of intellectual property (IP), to gain an appreciation of IP as a tool for economic, social, cultural and technological development and to understand the role WIPO plays in the global administration of IP.

The program consists of lectures by eminent WIPO and external experts in the field of IP as well as case studies and group discussions on selected IP topics.

A certificate of participation is awarded to those who successfully complete all requirements of the program.


The Summer School is open to 30 senior students (graduate and postgraduate) and young professionals from any field of study or discipline. The program is designed for candidates who are already familiar with IP.

All applicants are required to have successfully completed the Academy's distance learning General Course on Intellectual Property before the deadline for registration. Please note that priority will be given to those who have completed the said course in the selection of participants.

Participants are responsible for their own travel to and from Kingston as well as accommodation and living expenses during their participation in the program.

Insurance and Medical Examination

Non-resident participants will be provided with insurance coverage for the duration of their stay in connection with the Summer School program.

Each participant will be required to present a medical certificate upon arrival.
