Policy Development

Objectives

The Policy Development Program offers courses, which form part of the WIPO Training Program and additionally offers a variety of other new and innovative courses. The WIPO Training Program seeks to provide general and specialized training for senior officials in the field of intellectual property. The Policy Development Program more particularly focuses on intellectual property information sharing; orientation and training for decision-makers, policy-advisers and other senior officials involved in the protection, administration and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

The program organizes general Academy sessions for senior government officials involved in formulating policies for the protection of intellectual property. These Academy sessions serve as a forum for debate, exchange of experiences as well as deepening knowledge of the intellectual property system as a tool for social, economic, cultural and technological development.

In addition, special Academy sessions are organized on emerging and global issues in the field of intellectual property and are also organized for specific target groups such as diplomats and law enforcement officials. The sessions will soon be extended to cover new target groups, such as Chief Executives of R&D institutions, SMEs and NGOs.

Furthermore it seeks to promote scholarship and research in the field of intellectual property and to develop educational materials and curricula for the teaching of intellectual property.

Joint Programs

The Academy offers a number of degree and diploma programs jointly with other Universities. These programs seek to foster scholarship in the field of IP and the development of IP curricula worldwide, in particular in developing countries and countries in transition to a market economy.
