FAQs during the session (DL101)
How do I get started?
You should be able to access the course contents by visiting
http://academy.wipo.int/english and inserting the access codes that were sent to you by email on the beginning of the session.
Click on the course title after you log on, and then click on "start."
You should be able to see the course index on the first page. If you can't visualize it, please click on "Syllabus" in the menu on the left of your course screen. Each module will be available from "Page 1" underneath each course title.
We recommend that you start by reading the guide to studying the course.
How many hours a day should I connect to the course?
The Academy does not control how many hours the student remains connected per day to the course contents, as it is not a requirement for the successful completion of the course.
I won't be able to study this week. Can I catch up later?
Yes. You may arrange your study hours the way you find most convenient.
Can I study offline?
The course was designed to address the needs of those who might not have extensive access to the internet. If you do not have easy access to the internet or you prefer to study off line, please download the PDF format of the module by clicking on the 'PDF' on the left side of the course content. This will also allow you to print the material or use the content locally on your computer wihout accessing the internet. Therefore, it is not mandatory that you spend a certain amount of time logged onto the course contents.
I am receiveing an error message when I access the contents. What should I do?
This happens when two browsers are open to the same account at the same time. Please make sure you close all the browsers in your computer and no one is accessing the course contents with your access codes and try logging onto the course again.
Why can't I access the audio files?
You must have the a version of real player (there is a free version available for download on the
www.real.com site) and a filter that allows access to audio files to listen to the audio files from your computer. In any event, the transcripts in the course content are identical to the audio files, so you may go ahead with your studies through the transcripts without any harm to your overall understanding of the course contents.
Why can't I download the PDF files?
To access the PDF files, you need to download Adobe Acrobat reader onto your computer.
Should I send the tasks and assignments to the course administration?
You are not supposed to mail any tasks or assignments to the course administration. The tests under the "Exam" icon are for self-ssessment only, and you should be able to check if you have understood the course contents or if you should revise any of its subjects according to your performance in these tests.
Do the end of module exams count for the final grade?
The end of module exams are for self-assessment only, and do not interfere in the student's final grade, which is based exclusively in the results of the final exam.
Nevertheless, as the style of questions and the system for submission of answer in the end of module exams is the same as in the final exam, we recommend that you take as many of these exams as you can, so as to prepare for the final exam.
Can I receive messages from the administration in another email address?
The course administration can not ensure that messages will reach the participants if they change email addresses during the a session of the course, or if they don't set their anti-spam filter to always authorize incoming messages from the course administration.
It is not possible to send messages to two different email addresses for a same student either.
Do I have to study other texts than the course contents to prepare for the final exam?
No. If you manage to read the course contents and to understand them, you should be able to succesfully complete the exam.
