The second edition of the regional Master's Degree in Intellectual Property (MIP), jointly offered by Universidad Austral and WIPO, in cooperation with the National Industrial Property Institute of Argentina (INPI) of Argentina will begin on March 5, 2014.
This regional master's degree is intended to satisfy a need common to all Latin American economies. The knowledge society and the use of intangible assets are increasingly pertinent issues on the political and economic agenda, creating the need for an academic program which analyzes intellectual property (IP) mechanisms in depth and trains agents that promote the sustainable development of a better and efficient use of intangible assets. Beyond the theoretical bases of IP, which have been sufficiently explored in other areas, this program will focus on the management and administration of intellectual property rights within institutions, companies, associations, research institutes and government agencies.
The program will last twelve months, beginning on March 5, 2014 and ending on February 28, 2015. It will be organized into 4 cycles as follows:
|Part I (March 5 to May 23, 2014):
||Distance learning via the Internet
|Part II (26 May to 30 October, 2014)
||Residential classes, Universidad Austral, Buenos Aires, Argentina
|Part III (November 1 to December 15, 2014):
||Dissertation- writing through the tutorial system
|Part IV (December 15, 2014 to February 28, 2015):
||Finalization of the dissertation, presentation and defense.
The curriculum aims to provide an in-depth examination of patents, trademarks, geographical indications, industrial designs, plant varieties, copyright and related rights, contracts and licensing, the link between IP and innovation, public health, information technology, agriculture, creative industries and entertainment and the strategic management of intangible assets with special emphasis on financial, accounting and tax aspects.
The course is designed for young professionals who wish to acquire the skills necessary to play a leading role in IP issues with a regional and comparative approach.
Applicants must be professionals under 40 who hold at least a four-year bachelor’s degree in any discipline and be graduates of a university recognized in Latina America, or a foreign institution. A minimum of three years’ professional experience and current activity in the IP field would be an asset. Most classes will be taught in Spanish. English reading comprehension ability is also required.
Upon satisfactory completion of the program, participants will be awarded a Master's Degree in Intellectual Property (MIP), certified to align with international standards, jointly from Universidad Austral, WIPO and INPI.
A total of 35 places are available in the program.
