Cooperation and Collaboration Key Themes in WSO Meeting

September 6, 2018

It was the WIPO Regional Office in Singapore's (WSO) great privilege to host an informal meeting of IP technical assistance providers (IPTAPs) in the ASEAN region. Representatives from the EU IP Office, INPI (France), IP Australia, JETRO (Japan), the UK IP Office, and the US Patent and Trademark Office attended, providing excellent contributions and displaying a real willingness to continue to work together.

A valuable contribution also came from WIPO Assistant Director General Mr. Yo Takagi who outlined the organization's extensive work in building the IT infrastructure in the ASEAN region.  Mr. Takagi was in Singapore to present the 2018 WIPO Awards at the opening ceremony of the Global Forum on IP held in Singapore.

The meeting was the 7th gathering of the IPTAPs since the inaugural meeting was initiated by the WSO in 2013.  The meetings help attending organizations to identify areas where there may be scope to collaborate to achieve a shared outcome, thereby making efficient use of the resources each organization contributes towards technical assistance and capacity development in the ASEAN region.
