WIPO Launches New Webpages For Japan Funds-In-Trust for Industrial Property – Africa & LDCs

October 24, 2014

In 2008, following the adoption of WIPO Development Agenda recommendations, in cooperation with WIPO, the government of Japan established the Japan Funds-In-Trust for Industrial Property – Africa & least developed countries (LDCs). Administered by the Regional Bureau for Africa at WIPO headquarters, the government of Japan has contributed an annual 1.1 million CHF to the fund to support technical assistance and capacity building in industrial property in Africa and LDCs. Over its first five years, the Fund has enjoyed much success in organizing international forums, modernizing IP offices, and providing diverse educational opportunities for members from Africa and LDCs.

The Japan Funds-in-Trust for Industrial Property - Africa and LDCs has enabled many positive technical assistance and capacity building initiatives, such as high-level international IP meetings for African parliamentarians, pictured along with Mr. Hideo Hato, Commissioner of the Japan Patent Office (Photo: WIPO)

To better share these successes and future initiatives with WIPO stakeholders and the general public, in October 2014 the Fund launched a new webpage. Through this online portal, stakeholders can learn more about the objectives of the Fund, find useful documents, and keep up to date with the Fund’s latest events, opportunities, and initiatives. Along with the WIPO Japan Office, the Fund represents the close cooperation WIPO has with the government of Japan and public and private stakeholders to help further realize the economic, social, and cultural benefits the international IP system provides.

Please visit the Fund’s webpage for more information and to stay up to date on its activities, or learn more about the productive first five years (2008 – 2013) the Fund has had through cooperation with the government of Japan.
