WIPO ASEAN Sub-Regional Workshop on the Establishment of an Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure for the Effective Utilization of Patent Results of Other Intellectual Property Offices (IPOs)

A WIPO ASEAN Sub-Regional Workshop on the Establishment of an Information Technology (IT) Infrastructure for the Effective Utilization of Patent Results of Other Intellectual Property Offices (IPOs) was held on September 6 – 7, 2012 in Tokyo in cooperation with the JPO under FIT/JP (IP). Mr. Natsume, Head of the WJO, moderated the workshop. Ten officials from the IP Offices of ASEAN countries attended. Speakers from Australia, the United States of America, the JPO, and WIPO, as well as ASEAN countries, presented and discussed efforts of regional and international cooperation in patent examination to accelerate the examination process for entities such as WIPO, the Vancouver group, IP5, and ASEAN. The workshop also covered existing projects and concepts such as the Global Dossier initiative. Participants also presented the status of their country’s on-going efforts at infrastructure modernization projects and future prospects of a work-sharing platform.
