The WIPO Summer Schools are an exciting two-week opportunity for graduate and postgraduate university students and young professionals interested in learning more about intellectual property (IP) as an instrument of economic, social, cultural and technological development, as well as the role that WIPO plays in the global IP system.

The summer schools also offer participants a platform to network with peers, in addition to IP experts from academia and the private and public sectors. Participants benefit from a practical approach to IP through simulation exercises, group work, panel discussions and case studies. Upon the successful completion of a WIPO Summer School program, participants are awarded a WIPO certificate.

Registration is now open on the WIPO eLearning Center for the WIPO Summer Schools organized in Brazil, Chile, South Africa, Switzerland, and the United States of America (USA).

WIPO-Brazil Summer School on IP and the Climate (virtual)

Each year, the WIPO Academy teams up with the WIPO Brazil Office, the National Institute of Industrial Property of Brazil (INPI) and the Brazilian Association of Intellectual Property (ABPI) to offer a summer school on IP in Portuguese. This year’s summer school will be held virtually from March 20 to 31, 2023. The summer school sessions will take place from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Rio de Janeiro time for the benefit of 200 qualified participants. Registration is open until March 15, 2023 on the WIPO eLearning Center. The 2023 edition of the summer school is dedicated to Lusophone countries and will cover the intersection of IP, climate, politics, business, plant varieties and eco-innovation. Nationals from Portuguese-speaking African countries can enroll for free in this special edition of the WIPO-Brazil Summer School.

WIPO-Chile Summer School on IP (in-person)

The WIPO-Chile Summer School on IP will be held in person in Santiago, Chile from March 20 to 31, 2023. The summer school is jointly organized by WIPO and the National Institute of Industrial Property of Chile and will be offered in Spanish. Registration is open until March 8, 2023 on the WIPO eLearning Center. Thirty highly qualified candidates will be selected to participate

WIPO-South Africa Summer School on IP and Transfer of Technology (hybrid)

The annual WIPO-South Africa Summer School on IP and Transfer of Technology will be offered in a hybrid format from November 20 to December 1, 2023. Participants will be able to attend the summer school sessions, which will be delivered in English, remotely or in-person at the University of Limpopo in Polokwane, South Africa. The summer school is offered by WIPO in cooperation with the National Intellectual Property Management Office (NIPMO) and the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission of South Africa. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply by April 27, 2023.

WIPO-USA Summer School on IP (virtual)

The WIPO-USA Summer School on IP jointly offered by WIPO and George Mason University will take place online from June 5 to 16, 2023. The summer school sessions will run in English from 8:50 am to 5:30 pm Eastern Daylight Time. The program is designed for candidates wishing to deepen their knowledge of US IP law. Young professionals graduate and postgraduate students interested in participating in the WIPO-USA Summer School on IP must submit their online applications by March 15, 2023.

WIPO-UNIGE Summer School on IP (in-person)

The annual WIPO-University of Geneva (UNIGE) Summer School on IP will be held in person at WIPO headquarters and the University of Geneva campus in Geneva, Switzerland. The summer school will be held in English and will run from June 19 to 30, 2023. Registration for WIPO-UNIGE Summer School on IP is open until March 31, 2023.
