The WIPO Internal Audit and Oversight Division (IAOD) is responsible for supporting the Director General in his management responsibilities and assisting program managers in attaining WIPO’s objectives. IAOD promotes good governance and professionalism through timely audits, evaluations and investigations.

  • *Note: In accordance with the WIPO Internal Oversight Charter, the Director of IAOD reports to the Director General but is not part of operational management. IAOD is functionally and operationally independent from the Secretariat and Management.

Through assistance from effective and independent oversight, in 2014/15 we expect to achieve improved:

  • Accountability;
  • Organizational learning;
  • Value for money;
  • Stewardship;
  • Internal control; and
  • Corporate governance.

These contribute to WIPO's Strategic Goal IX: “efficient administrative and financial support.”  

What we do

    Our activities include:

  • Audits — assessing the adequacy of management controls to ensure cost-efficient and accountable operations.
  • Evaluations — analyzing and assessing program results to improve current implementation and performance as well as future planning.
  • Investigations — examining possible wrongdoing and identifying vulnerable areas where fraudulent activity might occur.
